Halal Reads — Frequently Asked Questions (Beta Phase)
Find answers to common questions below.
General Questions
What is Halal Reads?
Halal Reads is a curated literary registry and review platform for Muslim-authored books. It offers structured editorial reviews, a discovery listing space, and a Cultural Rating Index grounded in Strange Inc.’s governing ethos.
It is not an endorsement marketplace or promotional directory.
Is Halal Reads a certification body?
No.
Halal Reads provides classification and editorial opinion. A listing does not indicate endorsement, theological approval, or literary superiority.
Is this only for fiction?
No. Halal Reads accepts fiction, non-fiction, and children’s literature, provided the book passes the Cultural Rating Index screening.
Professional Review Service
Does paying guarantee a positive review?
No.
Reviews may be positive, mixed, or critical. Payment secures the review process — not the tone or outcome.
Can I edit the review before it is published?
No.
You will receive the review privately first and may choose whether or not it is published publicly. However, review language is not negotiable.
Can I request removal of a published review?
Only in cases of factual inaccuracy. Editorial opinion will not be altered.
Who writes the reviews?
Reviews are written by approved reviewers under institutional oversight and published under “Halal Reads Editorial.” Reviewer identities remain confidential.
Discovery Platform
Does payment guarantee my book will be listed?
No.
All books must pass theological and content screening before listing. Payment does not override screening.
How long does screening take?
Up to 14 days during beta phase.
What kinds of books are rejected?
Books may be rejected for:
- Explicit sexual content
- Pornographic material
- Graphic violence without moral framing
- Foundational theological distortion
- Explicit anti-Islamic advocacy
- Hate speech
- Plagiarism
Low literary quality alone is not grounds for rejection.
Can I promote my listing as “Halal Certified”?
No.
Halal Reads provides classification and screening, not certification.
Can I respond to reader reviews?
Authors may express gratitude publicly but may not pressure, harass, or attempt to influence reviewers.
Cultural Rating Index
What does “Reviewed for Foundational Alignment” mean?
It indicates that the book passed a baseline theological threshold for listing. It does not imply endorsement.
Does the rating score judge quality?
No.
The rating index maps content and value indicators. It is descriptive, not evaluative of excellence.
Refund & Removal
Are fees refundable?
Fees are non-refundable once the review process begins.
Refunds may be issued only in cases of institutional error or rejection after payment due to screening oversight.
Can my listing be removed?
Yes.
Books may be removed for policy violations, author misconduct, harassment, or misrepresentation.
Beta Phase
What does “beta” mean?
Halal Reads is currently in a limited-capacity trial phase. Pricing, features, and intake capacity may evolve as the program stabilizes.
Final Position
What is the purpose of Halal Reads?
Halal Reads exists to restore literary discernment through clarity, restraint, and structured critique — not to manufacture praise or perform marketing.
